Canadian-poker: Publicly Traded Online Poker Sites May Soon Be Back in the Game in the U.S
| 31 December 2011 |
MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Canadian-poker (http://www.canadian-poker.ca) reports that the U.S. Justice Department made a landmark decision to relax its anti-online gambling laws, which may be the first step in getting American online poker players back in the game. Since major online poker operators PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker were shut down by authorities in April, Canadian players found a large percentage of their North American competition blocked from wagering real money, which ultimately affected how much money was available to be won, Meanwhile, publicly traded online poker sites took the Canadian market by storm, with poker rooms like 888 Poker and Party Poker becoming dominant players.
Canadian-poker welcomed publicly traded online poker sites with open arms, as these establishments abide by strict legal requirements, similar to financial institutions, and are therefore secure, said Canadian-poker spokesman Leon Daniels. However, the downside was Americans couldnt participate. Luckily, 888 Poker and Party Poker had already cornered several legal English-speaking online poker markets, so it has been a smooth transition for Canada. Now that the U.S is finally relaxing gambling laws, these public poker sites, which always adhered to laws in each country of operation, are set to win the U.S. market too.
888 Poker in particular is in the best position to bring Americans back online, Daniels continued. Theyve already been approved to offer online gambling services in Nevada. In addition, thanks to their position in Canada, where players have similar playing styles and look for games during the same hours as Americans, its a huge opportunity. More details on 888 in Canada: http://www.canadian-poker.ca/888-poker.
Party Poker is also in a strong position, Daniels added. Their stock jumped nearly 23% when news about the legal change went public, and theyre likely planning their part in the evolving North American market. Canadian players are lucky to live somewhere with much clearer laws regarding online poker, and hopefully we can serve as a successful model to the U.S. as they work through this legal transition, which - we hope - will speed up the process.
