As reported by: ContraCostaTimes.com
The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians agreed to pay nearly $13 million to settle several disputes with Madera County over a planned casino expansion.

The deal ends four legal battles between the county and the tribe, allowing the tribe to expand the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino and ending the county's claim that it has jurisdiction over the project.

Chukchansi tribal officials seek to build an 11-floor hotel at the casino about 30 miles north of Fresno, near a popular route to Yosemite National Park. The county contended the tribe planned to expand on land not under the the federal trust protection that allows the tribe to use it for gambling.

The county had sued to block the parcel from being placed into federal trust, and said the tribe owed taxes on the land.
