City links casino to sport scheme

Cardiff council has made an official bid for a "super" casino to be built in the city.
If the plans are given the go-ahead, the casino development would prompt early large scale investment into the £700m sports village, the council said.
The authority warned that if the casino plan was turned down, the sports plans would be delayed beyond their deadline of 2012.
It also wants a change to the rule that one region can have only one casino.
Currently the Gambling Act only allows for one regional casino, but Cardiff, along with other authorities, is calling for that to change.
Council leader Rodney Berman said the council needed to prove to the government that a regional casino would provide economic regeneration and major investment.
He said the council also had to show that any "adverse social effects identified are minimised, controlled and managed."
