Coalition Fights Anthony Casino

It may still be a dirt lot but opposition is growing against the Anthony casino.

Friday the New Mexico Coalition Against Gambling set up shop in Las Cruces to try and sway the public's opinion on the proposed gambling complex.

The rally comes just one day before the casino's first information fair to educate our area on the more than 900 jobs the casino could potentially offer, if its approved.

"It could be years before there were any jobs and there is a good possibility there will never be any jobs so they do what casinos do best, they sale false hopes," said Guy Clark, New Mexico Coalition Against Gambling.

"We had been forgotten for many years and I have seen in the past 2, 3 years that businesses are coming and good things are happening in our community," said Pastor Juan Acebeto, Anthony, New Mexico.

The first casino career information fair will take place Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Del Cerro Community Center located at 180 La Fe Avenue in Vado.
