Female Poker Players Love Luvin Poker!
| 28 July 2009 |
LAS VEGAS, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- From the get-go there was nothing normal in Jennifer Winter's life. She was born in the seventies after her mother, Joy, went into labor on a tour bus as her father -- famed music publicist Norman Winter -- introduced a young Elton John to the States.
At a mere 14 years old she began working the red carpets as the West Coast correspondent for Dance Party USA, scoring her first interview with Michael Jackson, whom her father represented. At 18, Jen starred in and produced her own TV pilot and began working as an assistant to Tony Danza at Sony Pictures. Winter went on to produce and do accounting for many live events and music videos and ultimately became a staffer in Beverly Hills with major TV producer Aaron Spelling. Her final project before moving to Vegas was coordinating a simulated war for NATO and POTUS in Colorado Springs on Schriever Air Force Base.
Ms. Winter, a family girl at heart, then decided to move to Vegas as her parents were making the hop to Sin City. Excited to take on the new venue, she soon had a rude awakening after discovering that, unless she knew how to produce the news or play poker, there was not a whole lot of work. With few appealing career avenues apparent, she reached out to Mori Eskandani (Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker) for a job. Although impressed with her credentials, he already had a full staff and so referred her to John Caldwell, then Editor and Chief at Pokernews.com. John hired her to coordinate the floor reporters and bloggers, as well as handle the finances for the 2007 WSOP live feed.
Winter's latest venture is launching an online poker community. Within a year her community included over 2500 members, of which 40% are female, a highly unusual statistic for a poker community. Women feel comfortable and they like to be respected for their game on the felt and comments in the forums. Members have even established get-togethers around the world and developed friendships, fun, passion, competition, and even romance.
The site also has nine female moderators, two males, and a director of special events. The mods are more like a concierge, ensuring that all members receive the prompt attention they deserve and are shown respect. No birthday gets ignored and the mods will not allow member bashing. "Players come to LP to have fun and that's the way it stays. We have a community chat box where people announce they are playing and friends jump in games together. Whenever a member makes a final table, there are always many players railing in the shout boxes for support," comments Ms. Winter.
The forum offers an arcade boasting 400 games, photo gallery, member blogs, profiles and of course a card room.
Jen has one tip for all the men out there: "Come hang out at Luvin Poker; everyone knows women can't play," she says with a wink, a smile, and a twinkle in her eye.
