PAP Security Printing Inc., which makes security-sensitive paper stock, blank lottery tickets, casino coin wrappers and automated teller receipts, has firmed up a multiyear agreement with Reno, Nev.-based International Game Technology Inc.
IGT, whose products account for about seven out of 10 slot machines in Atlantic City, is expected to get a substantial share of the business in Pennsylvania, where lawmakers have approved as many as 61,000 slot machines at 14 locations across the state.
"Getting IGT was the big jackpot if you're in the slot-machine distributor business," said Joseph Weinert, vice president of the consulting firm Spectrum Gaming Group. "IGT is almost a Microsoft of the slots industry, and we don't see that changing."
Pennsylvania's law requires manufacturers to deal with prospective casinos through the distributors. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has licensed 16 distributorships so far, including some whose principals have strong political connections.
