Las-Vegas style supercasino at the Dome is 'no secret'

The chairman of the Casino Advisory Panel is claiming work being carried out at the Millennium Dome will "be taken into account" when the decision making process to award the UK's first supercasino license is underway.

"It's certainly no secret, because Greenwich Council have told us about it," Professor Stephen Crow told Julian Worricker on BBC Radio Five Live.

"It's something we have to take into account. It's put forward by Greenwich on the basis that they would be able to get on with the job quicker because building has already started."

He acknowledged that other bidders might be concerned because they had not started building.

It was reported last week that US tycoon Philip Anschutz's entertainment company AEG has already constructed the shell of the gambling complex before a licence has even been granted for it.

MPs claimed the work exposed the licence bidding process as a sham, airing renewed concerns about reported contacts between billionaire Mr Anschutz, who bought the Dome in 2002, and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

Mr Prescott has admitted meeting Mr Anschutz seven times since August 2002, and was rebuked by Commons watchdogs last month for failing to declare a visit to his Colorado ranch until it emerged in the press.
