Morongo tribe's ad urges support of gambling deal

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians launched a multimillion dollar TV blitz Monday in a bid to pressure members of the Assembly to approve a gambling expansion deal for the tribe.
The statewide ad by the Riverside County tribe is running in all major media markets in both English and Spanish, and in 30- and 60-second versions. The ad will run for at least a few weeks, said Patrick Dorinson, a spokesman for Together California, an organization the tribe formed to campaign for approval of its renegotiated gaming agreement.
The Morongo band is gearing up for a heated fight in the Assembly after getting state Senate approval of the amended gaming agreement, called a compact, the tribe signed last year with Gov. Schwarzenegger. The Senate approved the compact 23-10 last week, but Assembly Democrats with strong labor allegiances have made it clear they oppose the deal and want different labor language.
