Neteller gains 500,000 users in six months

Neteller has released a trading statement in advance of its interim results, showing a growth of half a million in new users since the start of the year.

Andrew Gilchrist, vice-president of corporate communications at Neteller, said the period has been generally positive, with results that have bucked the trend for a seasonal downturn.

We are obviously quite pleased at the way the business has continued to grow, he said. The second quarter is usually regarded as a slower quarter; this time of year is traditionally slower than the first quarter.

By the end of June, Netellers customer base had increased to just under three million. The daily sign-up rate for customers increased by 19%, from 2,732 in the first half of 2005, to 3,251 for the same period this year.

Gilchrist argued that these figures indicate the effectiveness of Neteller as a payment option for operators.
