Gamblers lost $1.06 billion at Nevada casinos in February, 2.86 percent more than the same month last year, the state's Gaming Control Board said on Tuesday.

Casino gambling revenue, known as gaming win, was expected to be even stronger because of special events during the month such as Chinese New Year and the NBA All-Star game.

"February's gaming win showed an increase over last year, but not as strong as we had anticipated," Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons said in a statement.

The disappointing February gaming win follows a 2.08 percent decline in January.

On the Las Vegas Strip -- the heart of Nevada's casino industry -- gaming win in February increased 4.29 percent to $574.7 million, the gambling regulator said.
