The inaugural Racing & Gaming Summit scheduled for December 10, the day prior to the opening of he 29th annual Symposium on Racing, will feature the unveiling of two research reports on the economic impact of gaming machines at racing facilities and the potential for new racing and gaming markets. The reports are being compiled by Wall Street analysts Jason Ader and Michael Tew of Bear Stearns, along with Marc Falcone and Eric Hausler of Deutsche Bank Securities. Ron Barbaro, chief executive officer of the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corp., will be the keynote speaker at the Summit. He will speak on the successes of slot machines in Ontario, where 15 racetracks offer alternative forms of gambling. Wayne Lemons, director of the Delaware Lottery and a scheduled speaker at the summit, said the event will be a great opportunity for industry officials to meet with one another to discuss having gaming machines at racetracks. "The lottery and racing industries should work closely together, especially now when many states have or are considering video lottery programs at racetracks," Lemons said. "Meeting together in Tucson for a Racing & Gaming Summit before the Symposium makes sense, as racing industry leaders will already be there. There are only so many conferences that any of us can attend, so it's logical that we in the video lottery industry join the racing industry at its established event."
