Like many older cities, Dania Beach has a list of institutions that never seems to change. Near the top of that list is Dania Jai-Alai.

But a big change was announced last week when Jai-Alai executives said they were selling to the Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming Corp. for $152.5 million. The Aragon Group had owned Dania Jai-Alai since 1970, president Steve Snyder said.

Snyder will stay with Jai-Alai, he said.

Boyd management said it was excited about the opportunity to expand. The company already owns 19 casinos in six states, but none in Florida.

Jai-Alai is one of four Broward County gaming facilities gearing up to run slot machines later this year.

No detailed plans have been submitted to the city yet.
