Football Fans Can Win Up to $1 Million and Ultimate Redskins Experiences

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va., June 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Virginia Lottery and the Washington Redskins today revealed the details of the much-anticipated $50,000,000 Redskins Mania scratch ticket that will go on sale August 3 to coincide with the 2009 football season.

The scratch ticket, one of the first to be launched by a state lottery and an NFL team, offers football and lottery fans alike the chance to instantly win from $20 up to $1 million by scratching to win. The Redskins Mania ticket will include a second chance drawing feature in which players can enter non-winning tickets at valottery.com for the chance to win these amazing Redskins VIP experiences:

Redskins Mania tickets will be exclusively sold in Virginia by nearly 5,000 Virginia Lottery retail outlets beginning August 3. Redskins fans will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets during Redskins Training Camp at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Virginia, August 3-8, 2009.

Redskins Mania tickets are $20 and the cash prizes offered are similar to other Virginia Lottery tickets at that price point. The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 1,305,600. The odds of winning any cash prize are 1 in 2.78. Odds of winning the Redskins second-chance prizes are based on the number of entries. As with all Virginia Lottery products, profits from Redskins Mania will go to K-12 public schools in the Commonwealth. The chances of winning a prize through the Redskins Mania ticket are in no way related to the team's performance on the field.

Lucky fans who become finalists in the second-chance drawing for the Dallas trip will go on the field at halftime during the Redskins vs. Eagles game on October 26, 2009 to learn the results. Similarly, fan finalists for the "season tickets for 20 years" prizes will appear at halftime during the Redskins vs. Giants game on December 21, 2009.

Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia's public schools. The latest annual profits of $455 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 20 years, the Lottery has sold more than $20 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $10.9 billion in prizes to players.
