Scotland has more than a few things to offer tourists. Perhaps one of the greatest is the city of Aberdeen, Scotland’s third largest and one of 32 local government council areas. This city has held many nicknames, including the Granite City, and Silver City with the Golden Sands. During the mid-18th to mid-20th centuries, Aberdeen’s buildings incorporated locally quarried granite, whose mica deposits caused them to sparkle like silver. The city has an extended sandy coastline. Since 1990, the city has been booming with tourism. Aberdeen has won the Britain in Bloom competition a record-breaking ten times, and it plays host to the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, which is a major international event that attracts up to 1000 of the most talented young performing arts companies.
Packing winter clothing while visiting Aberdeen would be the safest bet. Although the city has warmed up a few degrees over the years, the temperature rarely rises above 68 degrees F (20 C) making it a very chilly place for those used to warmer climates. On a sunny day, Aberdeen’s silver-like sky lends a very attractive glitter to the city. But when the weather is gloomy, everything blends into one another, making it difficult to tell where the buildings end and the sky begins.
Of course, the UK lures in visitors with their storied history. Scotland is legendary for hundreds of separate things, all of which could be appealing to tourists. While in Aberdeen, the Gordon Highlanders Museum is a wonder war-related garden to explore, and the Provost Skene’s House is equally informative and appealing.
