In 1996, Clive Haworth, James Caddy, and Charles Malir founded Orbis Technology as a systems integration company. The main objective of Orbis was to develop the OpenBet software which is used by various online gambling institutions throughout the world. When an operator utilizes Orbis' OpenBet software platform with its unique one account, one wallet solution, customers are able to play across multiple platforms in all languages and currencies. The comprehensive management provides the operator with a clear view of all customers' gaming activities. OpenBat is available for multiple applications, including rake games like poker, fixed odd games like slots, sportsbooks, retail, marketing, and casinos. With this comprehensive software, every aspect of gaming is handled more easily, and fair gaming is promoted all around the board.
OpenBet is one of the most major gambling backend products available. This software platform is already being used by heavy-hitters in the world of online gaming, both in the UK and overseas, where it carefully and comprehensively manages online betting websites. OpenBet uses standard three-tier architecture on UNIX consisting of the OpenBet database, a web server, and the application server.
The database used is Informix Dynamic Server, typically used on Linux or Solaris. The application server used is designed by Openbet exclusively to maintain high-availability, high-volume betting applications. The application server is written in C with several particular libraries for designated tasks. For games and casinos, Java servlets are used which are contained in Tomcat or Resin. The web server Apache 1.3 acts as a proxt to the application servers for both front-end and back-office applications and also to the Java servlets for the API. Apace communicates with the application server via an Apache module.
From inception to near perfection, the timeline was rapid. In 1996, the software was developed, then in 1997, the first implementation of a sports betting application was started through a City Index and Sporting Life joint venture. By 1998, Betonline.co.uk had gone online for the World Cup. In 1999, Orbis launched their OpenBet Casino at ICE, the Sky Vegas Live Roulette channel was launched, and a few new customers signed up for services.
In a little over 3 years, OpenBet was starting their rapid-rise to infamy. By the time 2000 rolled around, Ladbrokes.com was released on OpenBet, Surrey Sports went live on OpenBet, Paddy Power goes live, and OpenBet as acquire by NDS Ltd., a News International Company.
As of 2008, the OpenBet system is being used by some powerhouse online casinos, including Ladbrokes, Macau SLOT, 32Red, SkyBet, VC Games, Premier Bet, Betway, Lasseters, UKbetting, and many more. OpenBet continuously proves that what they offer is a needed service to anyone wishing to run a numerically correct establishment. But moreover, OpenBet made it possible for multiple languages and multiple currencies to all come together on common ground and take part in internet gaming. OpenBet is still putting out great games such as Aztec Triple Up, Caribbean Nights, Atlantic Poker, and new, exciting versions of classics such as French Roulette.
